Andy Barney

Andy was born in Oxford, England. He was brought up in a soccer family with two generations of professional play. Andy was a registered semi-professional player with Oxford at age 16. From ages 16-23 Andy worked full-time in business while playing for various English clubs. He became a Branch Sales Manager for a large office equipment company at age 20. At age 23 Andy left the business world to study Physical Education. From 1981-1984 he was an ever present first XI player with the British Collegiate team. He graduated with honors in Physical education at age 26. Before moving to America he coached British youth soccer teams for ten years and lectured in Physical Education.
After emigrating to the U.S. he founded British Soccer Camps, the world’s largest soccer camp organization. From age 27 to 32 he served as Director of Coaching for the Kansas Soccer Association, Mid-West Girls Regional Director of Coaching and the USSF as a U19 National Staff Coach/Selector. He simultaneously worked as Director of Marketing and Coaching for All American Indoor Sports, a KC based multi-million dollar indoor soccer and sports mall organization. Andy founded and ran the National Indoor Soccer Council before handing the reins to the USISA. He is currently a member of the US Indoor Soccer Association’s Advisory Board. He coached men’s college soccer at Avila University, is an NSCAA Convention clinician and is currently in his 21st year as Director of Coaching for the Kansas City Legends Soccer Club. Andy holds a United States Soccer Federation “A License” an NSCAA “Advanced National Diploma” and 14 coaching qualifications in 8 other sports.
Andy’s Legends club teams have won 13 National Indoor Championships & 3 USYSA Regional Championships. In 2002 a team with ten of Andy’s former U18 players, beat Southern California 9-1 in the final four en route to winning the U20 National Outdoor Championship. Andy is the owner of Soccer Excellence Inc., the K.C. Legends Soccer Club, National Indoor Soccer Championship, SuperClubs North America, the SuperClubs National Team Tours and the National HappyFeet Preschool & Legends Soccer Club franchise system.
Andy is the author of “Training Soccer Legends” a 320 page book with a unique deceptive dribbling and goal scoring individual perspective on youth coaching.
Andy has produced two best selling DVD’s, “Legendary 1 v 1 Moves” & “Training Legendary 1 v 1 Moves”. He is currently writing his second book “Legends for Life”. Andy plans to write a third book "Geneticism and Discrimination in Youth Soccer". Andy has a vision and mission to develop all children into brave, creative leaders for life through soccer.

Brian Roberts

Brian Roberts brings his wealth of experience in soccer to the Legends. Brian is originally from Pasadena, California. Following high school Brian attended Yale University. Brian was a standout defender at Yale University where he was a four- time All-Ivy selection. He started every game during his four-year career and captained the Bulldogs his senior year. Earned All-New England honors during his senior season and All-New England Third Team honors during junior season. Named to All-Ivy First Team during senior season, All- Ivy Second Team junior and sophomore season and was an All-Ivy Honorable Mention during freshman season.
Following graduation Brian was drafted by the Minnesota Thunder in the first round of the A-League draft in December of 2003. Brian was picked up on the Kansas City Wizards for their developmental roster in 2004 and continued to participate with both their reserves and first team for several years before being forced into retirement due to injury.
Brian's experience as a youth player has helped him develop a coaching style that motivates and encourages kids to take on risk and play without fear. Brian is very keen on helping young players learn the game of soccer and develop their skills toward reaching their maximum potential.

Andrew Clifton

Andrew is a former Legends player, teacher, high school coach and
HappyFeet-Legends franchisee. Andrew played for Andy Barney's 83-84 boys
team in Kansas City for thirteen years and knows the powerful results of
having grown up in the Legends training system. Andrew spent his entire
youth soccer career playing for Andy Barney and the Kansas City Legends.
At age 17/18 Andrew received parent accolades for his coaching work in the
KC Legends Academy training program. While playing and coaching for the
Kansas City Legends, Andrew spent time learning and developing a
fanatical passion for soccer played the "Legends" way.
Andrew was a top midfielder for O'Hara and a standout for the KC Legends Soccer Club.
Andrew helped his club team to five first or second place finishes at the state level and also helped the team win five National Indoor Championships between 1992-1999.
Andrew played for the notoriously strong Missouri ODP team as a youth player. A gifted deceptive dribbler and goal scorer, he served as captain for the O'Hara High School soccer team and earned all-conference, all-metro, all-district, all-region and all-state honors.
An honor student, Andrew was student body president at O'Hara High School. He participated in the MLS KC Wizards Youth Training Program in 01-02.
From 2002 to 2006 Andrew attended Drury University in Springfield, Missouri
on a soccer scholarship and majored in Secondary Education and History.
Andrew played in the Professional Developmental League for the Kansas City
Brass. Andrew graduated from Drury University where he was a scholarship
standout and ever present player for four years.
Andrew played lead roles in several plays whole attending Drury University. After graduating from University, Andrew taught history at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri. While teaching history Andrew was also the Boys Head Coach and Girls Assistant Soccer Coach.
Andrew is now the Vice-President of HappyFeet-Legends International and
brings boundless energy and knowledge to the playing field.

Jamie Leeper

Jamie Leeper is originally from Loughborough in Central England. He was the 1st team soccer captain for his high school and was an ever present on the Leicestershire county soccer team during his junior and senior years. He spent 3 years at the University of Leeds and was the captain of the 2nd XI who won back to back league championships (2001-2003). Upon graduating Jamie played semi-professionally for Loughborough Dynamo FC before first visiting the USA as a Challenger Sports coach in the summer of 2004. Jamie gained many accolades in his second summer and in August 2005 was rewarded for his efforts with the head coaching position at Gallup Catholic School, NM. Jamie spent 3 years in New Mexico and in this time he gained his teaching license and a Masters degree in secondary education from WNMU.
During the 08/09 school year Jamie taught Physical Science at Shawnee Mission Northwest, where he was also the boys’ JV coach and girls’ C team coach. Jamie coaches two of the 02/03 Junior Legends teams and is also the coach of the girls’ 95/96 World Cup team, girls 94/95 Red team, and Girls 93/94 black team. He holds a UEFA C license, and a USSF D license.
Jamie works full time in the HappyFeet Legends’ office and is a tournament director as well as being involved with sales and marketing of the HappyFeet program at the local and national level. He also assists in the process of training franchisees.
Jamie now lives in Lenexa with his two dogs and a cat. Jamie loves to travel and spent 6 weeks in the summer of 2008 traveling through Central Europe. Jamie is an avid Tottenham Hotspur fan, with Jermaine Defoe being his favorite player. Jamie loves to see kids be creative and develop new skills, and enjoys being able to help change children’s lives through the game of soccer.

Missy Geha

Missy grew up in Kansas City and played for the very accomplished KC Dynamos in her youth. Her club youth career brought her four State Cups and one regional championship. Additionally, Missy played for the Kansas ODP state team and the Region II (Midwest) regional team. Missy attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School where she was a three time all-state selection, selected by Student Sports as one of the top 75 junior soccer players in the United States, and named Gatorade's Soccer Player of the Year for the state of Kansas. Her accomplished youth career allowed her the opportunity to play in the very difficult Big 12 Conference for the University of Kansas.
Missy had a very accomplished career at KU setting the career record for number of minutes played. Her freshman year she was named to the All-Big 12 Newcomer Team while starting all 20 matches of the season. Missy's sophomore year continued the success while earning All-BIg 12 Second Team honors and being named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Her junior year continued the theme after being named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Missy has been coaching HappyFeet sessions for several months and has already received parent accolades for her ability to encourage and motivate all the kids to have an absolute blast. Missy has an innate ability to inject enthusiasm, passion and energy in all the players that she coaches. Her positive demeanor creates a perfect environment for kids to develop and have fun!

Kyle Hogge

As a youth player Kyle played for the 83/84 Legends and Andy Barney for 14 years. Kyle's team won the Kansas State Cup during his tenure. However, they are more noteworthy for winning 5 National Indoor Soccer Championships between the ages of 12 and 18. Kyle and his team mates (including Legends coach Andrew Clifton) were incredible at beating opponents and scorong goals in and around the box. After 14 years in the club Kyle is a firm believer in the unique Legends philosophy.
Kyle had a storied career at O’Hara High School. In his four years he received four all state selections and two Kansas City all metro selections. Kyle’s high school career culminated in a second place finish at the state tournament, the school’s highest ever finish. Kyle was recognized for his achievements by being chosen to play in the Missouri vs. Kansas high school all-star game.
Kyle was also a mainstay on the Missouri ODP team and was chosen to participate in the Wizards youth academy along with several of his Legends’ teammates.
From 2002 – 2007 Kyle attended Drury University on a soccer scholarship. Kyle was a two year team captain at Drury and guided them to a top ten national ranking his senior year. Kyle graduated with honors from Drury and went on to receive his masters in business administration from the university also. While in attendance at Drury Kyle also spent two years playing for the Springfield Demize in the Professional Development League. In 2007 Kyle was voted team MVP by the coaches and invited to the leagues combine in Florida.
Kyle’s coaching resume includes a one year stint as the assistant soccer coach at Hillcrest High School as well as coaching at several of the Drury University summer camps. Kyle has also spent two summers coaching the Legends skills academy.
Kyle now works full-time for the Legends Soccer club. Kyle has chosen to follow his passion for teaching and promoting the unique Legends method instead of the business career route that was open to him.
Kyle has an immensely fun, caring, empathetic way with children.

Im a native of New Jersey, have lived in many different parts of the country and settled in Kansas City about 25 years ago. I played D1 football at Wake Forest University, where I graduated with a BA in Speech Communication and History in 1974. Ive been certified to coach American Football, Baseball, and Soccer and have been affiliated with Andy and the Legends Soccer Club since 1987. My two boys David and Daniel played for Andy in the early days which is how I became involved.
My goal is to teach players to take risks and be creative in all parts of the field. Winning and losing to me is an individual situation. All my players demonstrate a willingness to make the big play, and make a difference in their team. I coach utilizing positive motivation and demand that my players use the moves that I painstakingly teach week after week, year after year. I love coaching as it gives me a chance to make a difference.
I own my own gym, the fit pit, in Lenexa, where I conduct individual and small group exercise sessions. I have been selected as the STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH for the Legends Soccer Club and have trained many of the clubs athletes. My program is consistently varied and focuses on core strength with an emphasis on high intensity. My program can accommodate 7 yr olds as well as 70 yr olds. Doug Kaplinger

Doug has earned his National "D" coaching license. He has 14 years of youth
soccer coaching experience.
From 1992 - 1997 he was a Head Coach in the
Angle Soccer Club; 1997 - 1999 Assistant Coach in the Invasion Soccer
Club; 1999 - 2003 Head Coach in the Olathe Spirit (Rush) Soccer Club.
Some of his most memorable soccer events include: Winning the Midwest All Girls
(MAG) tournament with the Angels; Finishing in 3rd place with Olathe Spirit
at State Cup.

Geoff Miles

Geoff Miles played for the KC Legends from age 13-19 as a youth player. Geoff was part of the 81/82 Legends that went to the USYSA Final Four as U17's, one of ten ex-Legends who went back again as U19's and played a big part when the same team won the National Championship as U20's beating Florida 5-1 in the semi-final and Southern California 8-3 in the final.
Geoff played his college career at Missouri State and UMKC. While at UMKC Geoff earned All-Conference honors. Geoff played in the PDL with the Kansas City Brass and was drafted by the Kansas City Comets out of college. Geoff has played outdoor soccer professionally for Keflavik FC (Icelandic)&
Vejle BK (Danish SAS Liga). He has appeared in numerous games for the KC Wizards reserves.
Having grown up in the Legends program Geoff is a dyed in the wool "Training Soccer Legends" style coach with a great sense of humor, a very competitive personality and a wonderful way with children.

Matt Holdaway

Matt moved to Kansas City from Nebraska in 2003 to attend William Jewell
College. While at Jewell, Matt played goalie and helped his team reach the
Final Four of the 2006 NAIA National Tournament.
Growing up, Matt played for a few different clubs in the Omaha area,
experiencing the pros and cons of different styles of coaching. The
majority of his youth soccer experience was marked by coaching styles
focused on one/two-touch passing and winning at all cost. This past
experience adds to Matt's passion for coaching the Legends' way.
Matt has a passion for people. He loves working with kids of all ages,
helping them to develop into confident, highly-relational young men and
women. This has been a theme throughout his life. From church-work and
mission trips, to working in orphanages and soccer camps, he has always
found life in giving to younger generations.
Now, Matt is continuing his journey in service to younger generations as
both a HappyFeet and Legends Club coach. He is excited to continue learning
how sports, specifically soccer, can be instrumental in the development of
tomorrow's leaders.

Pat is the Vice-President of both the National Indoor Soccer Championship
and the SuperClubs National Championship. There is no one better than Pat
at working with the early age groups encouraging them to try the skills. His fun loving personality and
tremendous empathy for children make him the perfect coach for very young players.
However, Pat also has a gift for working with older players. In
his role as Staff Coordinator for the SuperClubs National teams Pat has the
responsibility of Directing a coaching staff that has included NCAA Division I coaches from Yale, Clemson, Memphis, Stetson, Tulsa and numerous other NCAA Division I institutions.
Pat arranges and directs these high level coaches and elite youth squads in exhibition matches against the giants of the English Premier League each summer. Past opponents have included youth professional teams from Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, Leeds, Middlesborough, Charlton, Southampton.

Mike Stone

Mike Stone has helped the MNU Pioneers win 3 championships during the past
three years. In that time frame, Mike served as the Boys ODP Director for
the state of Kansas. He is the only Kansas Coach to have worked the past
3 years on the Region 2 Boys staff of coaches. Previously, Stone served
as an Age Group Director and Tournament Director for the Olathe Soccer
Club (now the Kansas Rush) and coached the Kansas Girls 86' and Boys 88'
ODP teams.
Prior to coming to Kansas City, Coach Stone was the Head Men's Soccer
Coach for the Danville (IL) Area College Jaguars. He guided the start-up
program for three years, while teaching business classes and directing
the youth soccer organization. Previously, Stone had coached the U19
Girls Greensboro (NC) Twisters and U17 Boys United Quest Red (recently the
Atlanta Silverbacks and currently the North Atlanta Soccer Association) to
tournament championships. The Twisters won their US Soccer Girls U19
State Championship. Mike started coaching in 1989, where he helped
coach the Capital University Men's team to a conference championship.
Coach Stone played at and graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
He then obtained his M.B.A. from Ohio State University. Stone has obtained
6 National Coaching Certificates including his USSF 'B', USSF National
Youth and his NSCAA 'Advanced National'. Mike also runs youth soccer
programs for 4,5 & 6 year olds at MNU and is a state level referee. Mike
and his wife Debbie have a daughter.

Scott Vermillion

Scott grew up in Olathe, Kansas. Played for Olathe Soccer Club during his
youth career and played for Olathe East High School. Named Gatorade Player of
the Year and Male Athlete of the Year for the state of Kansas. He also
holds the Single Season Scoring record for both Olathe East and Olathe South.
Scott played for the U17 National Team which was the first US team ever to win the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament in 1992. In 1993, he played in the U17 Youth World Cup in Japan where they finished seventh.
Scott played for the former U.S. national team coach Bruce Arena in a very
successful Virginia University Dynasty from 1995-1997. During his tenure at UVA, was ACC
Tournament Champions both in 1995 and 1997. Played in two NCAA Final Four's. Earned first team honors All-ACC in 1996 and 1997. Scott was named NSCAA All-American in 1997. Also in 1997, Scott was named to both the NCAA Tournament Team and the ACC Tournament Team.
Scott played for the U20 National Team. He played with the Olympic Team in 1996. In 1997, he played in Italy with the World University Team.
Scott played with the Men's National Team in 1998 and then joined the Wizards in the MLS. He was one of the first 10 players selected to play and train with Project 40 the MLS feeder program. As part of the Project 40 program, he trained with
Sunderland in England for four months. Was a highly-touted defender in the
MLS, the Kansas native started 22 games in each of his first two seasons in
the league. Scott was then traded to the Colorado Rapids in 1999 and played
two years in Denver. In 2001, Scott was traded to DC United where his MLS
career was ended prematurely by an injury.

Kevin Wardlaw

Head Men's Soccer Coach Kevin Wardlaw took the helm at MidAmerica Nazarene
University ( Olathe , KS ) in January of 2003. In his four years at MNU he
has led the program to a 55-24-6 (.682) overall record. MNU has won 2
NCCAA
National Championships, 3 NCCAA Regional Titles and a share of the Heart
of
America Conference Championship in 2005. Coach Wardlaw was named the
NSCAA/NCCAA National Coach-of-the-Year in 2006 and the HAAC Conference
Coach-of-the-Year in 2005.
Previous to MNU Coach Wardlaw was at Hardin Simmons University ( Abilene ,
TX ) where he was the Men's Soccer coach from 1999-2002. While at HSU he
led that program to 3 American Southwest Conference championships and two
appearances in the NCAA Div III National Tournament. His record while at
HSU was an impressive 51-20-2 (.712).
Coach Wardlaw started his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at
Cumberland College ( Williamsburg , KY ). He obtained his Master of Arts
Degree in Education while at CC. A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University
(
Bourbonnais , IL), Wardlaw was a two sport athlete. He was a two-time CCAC
All-Conference Goalkeeper and a 3-time Track and Field All-American.
Coach
Wardlaw's overall coaching record stands at 106-44-8 (.696) in 8 seasons.
He holds a National, Advanced National, and Premier Diploma from the
NSCAA.

Matthew Gow

Matt hails from Springfield, MO where he was a 2 year captain for Lebanon High School as a goalie. During his four years at Lebanon Matt set numerous goalkeeping records and was rewarded with a trip to the Southwest Missouri All-Star game. Throughout his youth career, Matt was an integral part of a very successful Springfield Soccer team.
Following high school, Matt choose to further his education and soccer career at Mid America Nazarene University under the leadership of current Legends coach Kevin Wardlaw. At MNU, Matt has been the starter between the pipes all 3 years and has garnered 2 All Conference selections. Matt has also been the starting keeper for the Springfield Demize of the Professional Development League.
Matt is extremely passionate about and dedicated to helping youth players in the Legends club. Matt is an extremely kind and compassionate coach who has fully bought into the Legends philosophy.

Amy Geha

Amy was born and raised in Kansas City. Amy spent a good chunk of her youth career playing for the Kansas City Heat coached by Gags Pritchard. That team went on to win 4 state championships and went to 2 regional finals.
Amy also had a very successful high school career. Amy played for St. Thomas Aquinas High school and won back to back state
championships. As a four year varsity player, Amy earned numerous accolades including: All-Metro selection (2
years), all EKL (3 years), All-State (3 years), All Sun-country (2 years),
Newcomer of the Year as a Freshman and MVP as a junior and senior.
After High school Amy continued her soccer career at the University of Kansas.
During her tenure at KU she was able to lead the team to the NCAA Sweet 16
and Big 12 Championship. During her senior season the Jayhawks were ranked in the top
10 for the majority of the season. Following her senior season, Amy was voted onto
the All Big 12 first team, 2nd team All American central Region, 4 year
Jayhawk scholar athlete, Academic All Big 12. Amy also holds the record for most starts by any player in the programs history.

Max Hasselquist

Max attended Paola High School where he was the starting goalkeeper for the
Panthers. During high school he was the team captain as a senior and was
recommended and made the All League Team for the Tri-state area.
Max played club soccer in Shawnee Mission for the Shawnee Mission Elite Soccer
club. He currently holds a steady 3.5 GPA at Avila University, where he is
attending on a music and soccer scholarship. Max started in goal for Avila
as a freshmen and has held that distinction for the past three years. Max
continues to be the number one keeper for the Eagles. Currently a Junior
at Avila, he loves to help and watch youth players grow as soccer players.

Alec Lemmon

During his teen years, Alec played on the U.S. Soccer U-14 National Team, with the Region II '86 ODP team, and with the Region II '87 ODP teams for over four years. With the U.S. National Team Alec traveled to Mexico to play against top professional clubs. With the Region II Boys teams, Alec made trips to Massachusetts, Florida, Costa Rica and to the famous Biella, Italy Junior Pro Tournament. At this tournament the Region II Boys team was the first U.S. team to ever win the tournament championship. The tournament included the youth teams of famous Pro clubs such as Bayern Munich, Torino, Lazio and Juventus.
Alec's High School career was equally as impressive as he helped lead Maranatha Academy in Shawnee, KS, to their first Kansas State Championship in history. As a high school player he started every game and served as team captain 2 years. Alec is the second all time leading scorer at his high school with 47 goals, second only to his brother who held the state record several years with 96 career goals. Alec leaves high school as the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Career Boys High School Assist Leader with 52 career assists, breaking a record standing since 1995. He was selected to the All-SubRegional, All-County, All-State, and All-Metro teams.
In 2006 Alec led his current team (MidAmerica Nazarene University) and the HAAC Conference in scoring with 15 goals, while playing Center Forward. MNU also won the NCCAA National tournament and Alec was selected to the All Tournament Team. In 2007 Alec played Defensive Center-Mid and was a critical part of the team’s run in the National NAIA tournament. In 2008 Alec once again lead his team in scoring with 10 goals from Defensive-Mid and took the team to it’s second Conference Championship in school history.
As a college player Alec has received awards as a 3x HM All-American NCCAA, 3x All-Region NCCAA, 1st Team All-Conference HAAC, and NAIA Champions of Character Award.
Alec has been coaching youth soccer for 8 years now and starting running his own soccer camps for local youth players at age 14. Alec’s strongest coaching point is his ability to coach the finer details of the technical development of individual skill. He has the ability to not only tell players, but show players the most advanced moves in the game.
Skill, inspiration, and creativity for the game of soccer is what Alec seeks to pass on to his players and teams.
Alec plans to join the MNU coaching staff as a graduate assistant following his senior season at MNU and will continue to enjoy coaching youth players as well.
