he Legends club leads the way again. On Saturday August 5th the Legends held the inaugural 1 v 1 ladder competition Saturday and about 120 eager young dribblers and goal scorers turned up for some knock down, drag-out, head-to-head, dog-eat- dog match ups to earn their first ever position on the club 1 v 1 ladder.

The skills on display from some of these talented young men and women were absolutely awesome. I'm sure the parents and coaches can't wait to witness in games the additional talents these kids develop as a result of this exciting new addition to the famous Legends program.

As of 04-Nov-2006, the "Ladder" Competitions start at 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm and are held every Friday at the Roeland Park Dome indoor practice facility.

The benefits of the Legends 1 v 1 ladder are extensive.

  1. First, the kids will enjoy a guaranteed competitive forum in which to test and further develop their unique deceptive dribbling and shooting skills.
  2. Second, having a weekly test of 1 v 1 skill will result in greater motivation to prepare. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail, so anything we can do to spur greater dedication to technical training at home will pay dividends in eventual performance and altitude of achievement.
  3. The kids will now enjoy knowledge of results. Having a solid statistical goal and a specific knowledge of comparative performance is tremendous proven motivator. The ladder will be posted on the Legends web site each week. Parents and players can refer to it to check positions and develomental progress.
  4. While talented Legends attackers are dribbling, Legends defenders are learning how to defend against the best dribblers. Therefore, the benefits are simultaneously offensive and defensive.
  5. A shot is the hardest pass. The hundreds of shots taken under pressure in a 1 v 1 scenario have the added benefit of training the most elite of all passing abilities.
  6. The added ability gained in Saturday morning ladder competition 1 v 1's builds tremendous self-concept which, in turn, contributes to the willingness to take charge, lead and embrace the responsibility to make the big play.

Please make sure that you don't miss another.
