In 1986 he founded British Soccer Camps, which became the world’s largest camp organization. From 1985-90 he was DOC for KYSA and USYS Mid-West Girls Regional DOC FROM 1987-90. In 1987 he was a USSF U19 National Team Training Camp Coach/Selector. From 85-90, he was Director of Marketing and Coaching for a multi-million-dollar indoor soccer and sports mall company. Andy has coached at Avila University in KC and for the KC Sol in the NPSL. He is in his 35th year as Director of Coaching for the Kansas City Legends Soccer Club and an NSCAA Convention clinician. Andy holds a United States Soccer Federation “A License”, a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, a FAW Intermediate Badge, and 14 coaching qualifications in 9 other sports. Andy’s teams have won 13 National Indoor Championships & 5 USYSA Regional Championships. In USYSA/USASA Final Fours they have finished 1st once, 2nd once, and 3rd three times. For many years Andy was the President of the National Indoor Soccer Council. He is or has been, the owner of Soccer Excellence Inc., the K.C. In 2005 Andy published a 320-page book on soccer coaching “Training Soccer Legends”. In this vivid, ground-breaking, soccer book he describes the unique philosophies and methods that led to the success of the players and teams of the KC Legends Club. In each segment, he provides original insight into questionable youth coaching methods. He draws from the many strands of his experience, passion for the game, lifelong infatuation with the great players, and study of physical development. He does a deep dive into leadership, loyalty, and adventures in competition. He prescribes optimal methods for players of all ages, abilities, classes, and national backgrounds. He describes the hard work, headaches, and rewards of a soccer-playing, promoting, and coaching life. Plainspoken, wise, and enormously original, Training Soccer Legends addresses coaching abuses, forges new developmental pathways, and expands coaching horizons. It was written for every participant, coach, parent, or aficionado with a vision of maximizing each player’s potential. “Legends for Life” proposes that soccer taught the Training Soccer Legend’s way is society’s best vehicle for developing elite levels of child fitness and exceptional depth of lifelong character. It is Andy’s sincere belief there is no better way to teach bravery, creativity, and leadership for life.</image:caption>

<image:title>Meet Our Coaches - Dan Warne</image:title>
<image:caption>Dan has played soccer since he was 4 (which was just a few years ago). He grew up in Shawnee & Lenexa and played against Andy Barney and the Legends since the club formed. Andy tried to get him to join the Legends but it wasn't to be. He attended Shawnee Mission Northwest before moving on to Mount Mercy College. There, he broke every school record (goal/assists/points in a season and in a career) and was a 4 year all-conference performer. His senior year he was an all region selection and naia all-american. He has worked ever since graduating as a software engineer (all in the KC area). As his 2 kids started sports, he discovered his love for coaching/teaching. It is in his blood as both his parents taught. His dad was also a head soccer coach for club soccer as well as at SMNW and Piper high schools. Dan has coached his kids in soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball but his main love has always been soccer. Andy Barney finally convinced Dan to join the Legends as a coach. His 2 children both have only ever played for the Legends because of his belief in the club philosophy and how important that is in shaping young children.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Derrick is a proud father of two current Legends, Jordan (2007) and Jace (2010), and is a firm believer in the structure of the Legends program....and was a product of the program himself. The KC Legends has been part of Derrick's life since 1989 when he joined Andy Barney's team, the Spartans (shortly after renamed Legends), and played for Andy up until 1993. In 1993 Derrick's family moved to Rochester, NY where Andy made a connection to one of his coaching counterparts in Syracuse, NY, the Syracuse Blitz, where Derrick continued developing within a premier soccer organization up until college. Derrick represented the Western NY ODP team as their captain for multiple years from 1995-1998, as well as lead his high school team to 2 sectional and regional titles. He continued his soccer career at Univ. of Rhode Island (Top 10 Division 1), followed by time at Fredonia State University NY, a traditional soccer powerhouse in the east coast. After school Derrick reconnected with the Legends program where he coached within the skills program and multiple Legends teams from 2002-2004. Derrick attributes all of his success in soccer to what he learned from the Legends program and is excited to introduce the skills and methodology to future soccer stars. Derrick recognizes the foundation set within the Legends program directly correlates to a players confidence on and off the field, he's looking forward to watching this growth within his players.</image:caption>

<image:title>Meet Our Coaches - Duke Christoffersen</image:title>
<image:caption>Duke is an Overland Park native who started playing soccer before most of the people reading this were born. He attended Shawnee Mission South where, as a senior, he captained the first-ever Kansas Sate Champion and was voted the 1986-1987 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. Duke’s coaching career began in his early twenties, both as a club team coach, and as an ODP State Team coach. He started coaching with the Legends Club in 2022 after returning from Southern California, where he lived, surfed, and worked as a television and film writer. Duke comes from what can only be described as a soccer family. His parents were the first inductees into the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame. His father was the first president of KSYSA, and his mother was integral in creating the Kansas Premier League, because his sister’s team didn’t have other quality girls’ teams to play against. His father is also in the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame and the creator of The National League. Duke’s love of soccer comes from his father, his brother, Diego Maradona, Michel Platini, and a man named Alex Nagy—a former Kansas City Spur who, at the park one day, told an 11-year-old Duke in his gravelly Hungarian accent, “Okay, you can play with us…but no crying.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Meet Our Coaches - Gage Person</image:title>
<image:caption>Hey everyone, I'm Gage Person, and I'm stoked to be stepping into the world of soccer coaching this year! I've been chasing a soccer ball since I could walk, and even though I didn't get involved with club soccer until middle school, my passion for the game has never waned. Nowadays, you can still catch me out on the field with friends (playing) or cheering on Sporting Kansas City, win or lose. When I'm not coaching, I'm usually working at a warehouse job, proving I can handle more than just coaching drills. And when I clock off, you'll find me glued to my computer (playing video games) or spending quality time with my friends or family. "Always Improving, Never Complacent." It's not just about soccer; it's a way of life for me. As a coach, I'm all about passing on that drive to my players, helping them grow both on and off the pitch. With my love for the game, years of experience, and a whole lot of enthusiasm, I'm ready to make waves in the world of soccer coaching.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, soccer has been a lifelong passion for me. I began playing at the age of 5 and continued through college at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG), where I played Division 1 soccer as a goalkeeper. During my time there, I proudly represented the university at the Indoor Soccer Nationals in Puebla, Mexico, competing against some of the country’s top talent. Coaching allows me to give back to the game that has given me so much. I’m passionate about helping young players reach their full potential both on and off the field by building their confidence, encouraging creativity, and inspiring them to take risks and learn from every challenge. At Legends Soccer Club, I strongly believe in developing brave, creative leaders. My goal is to create a positive, challenging, and fun environment where players are empowered to think for themselves, express their individuality through the game, and grow not just as athletes, but as people.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Growing up in the KC area, I was blessed to have played for the Legends 1982/1983's and to continue into a varsity position for SMNW as a freshamn and sophomore. After graduating early, I ended up playing for JCCC at the young age of 17! While at the Legends my Andy Barney trained and raised team went to 5 consecutive Kansas State Cup Championships and won all 5. 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. We placed well in regionals every year and helped build Kansas City into the soccer town that it currently is today. While at SMNW High School, we were nationally ranked as high as third in the nation by USA Today and we were the last Kansas 6A team to have won back to back state championships. I played on our state and regional ODP teams and never once did I compromise my playing style of skills with purpose. I now coach my son Cruz, on the 2005 boys team as well as my nephew Nicco (committed to the University of Houston Victoria) on the 2002 boys Legends team (Ranked 3rd in the state going into State Cup). I also coah the boys 2003 academy which is another top team in the state.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I'm Coach Micah, born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. As a native who's played in both Kansas and Missouri, I’ve been playing soccer since the age of 4 and have given 24 years to the game. I am lucky enough to have been able to play at the highest levels, outside of pro, and with some of the best teams, including the Legends. Winning several league titles, state cups, regionals, president cups, and competing in nationals. I was a top 25 player in my state, participated in and made the ODP team each year, played at Heartland, in the premier league, MRL, ECNL, and even been asked to play overseas. I've dabbled in 3v3, futsal, indoor leagues, and was crazy enough to play winter league outdoors! I played JV/Varsity and gained the title of Offensive MVP my freshman year and played & started Varsity the rest of my high school career. I was an all-conference sophomore and won conference my junior year. I landed several offers and college interest which helped me secure a D1 soccer scholarship. Needless to say, I have a ton of experience and knowledge on what it takes to be and create a dangerously skilled, high performing, and well versatile soccer player that stands and gets noticed!</image:caption>
